The piece is written in a "pop" style and the drumset and percussion parts display a pop/rock perspective. Scored for 10 players: 6 mallet players ( 3 vibraphones, 3 marimbas), 3 percussionists and drumset. In addition piano and bass can also be added. There are possibilities for an optional drum set solo and improve sections for one vibraphone. All of the mallet parts are scored for two - mallets. Fantasia: African Dreams for Percussion

$30.00

Bruce Salyers        Sound samples:  1    2    3
FANTASIA - Generally, a piece where “free flight of fancy” prevails over contemporary conventions of form, style, etc. - the piece usually has an improvisatory character.  The term can also imply a dream-like mood or fanciful whim.

"WRITTEN as a result of many of my life experiences Fantasia - African Dreams for Percussion, began as a percussion ensemble with a percussion soloist (intended to be myself). The soloist was to explore the tambourine and marimba. Shortly after beginning the composition, I began to study African percussion. The piece was already making use of improvisation, so I decided to add the accompanying hand drum ensemble, and give the soloist a true opportunity to be a creator of music. I wrote the music to be something that I would enjoy playing. I hope you find it both challenging and fun."    . . . . BRUCE SALYERS

INSTRUMENTATION:1. Soloist - Tambourine, Marimba, Djembe, 2. Vibraphone, 3. Marimba, 4. Marimba, Crotales, 5. 4 Toms, Anvil, Triangle, Suspended Cymbal, Djembe, 6. Bass Drum, Djun Djun, 7. Snare Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Temple Blocks, Congas, Djun Djun, 8. Turkish Crescent, Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbal, Bell (Cowbell or Double-bell), 9. Timpani, Chimes, Suspended Cymbal.  adv. high school/college.

atzara
$32.00

Alvaro Bertrand
Scored for ten performers, Gatzara ("loud party" in Catalonia) is a challenging etude in poly-rhythms and explores new sonorities for chimes, tam-tam and bass drum. Instrumentation: chimes, vibraphone, glockenspiel, marimba, xylophone, tam-tam, bass drum, sus. cymbal, timpani and piano. college.

"
The exploitation of peaks in the dynamic range, the active fabric, rhythmic dissonances, 'swirling' chromatic runs and accented fortissimo outbursts result in a visceral listening experience. The piece concludes with a cacophonous effect similar to that of myriad church bells pealing at the same time. In fact, it will definitely sound like a 'loud party' - and anywhere, not just in Catalonia." (Percussive Notes)

Overture For Percussion Toys

$22.95

Grant Cambridge        Sound sample
Scored for ten percussionists and eleven instruments, this work utilizes a collection of percussion instruments frequently referred to as "toys."  Particularly the instrumentation includes: wind chimes, temple blocks, tambourine, ratchet, triangle, castanets, finger cymbals, maracas, guiro, vibra-slap, and agogo bells.  The idea for this composition is rooted in the notion of highlighting these distinct instruments and presenting them in the performance forefront.  This work sheds new light, from both a performance and a technical standpoint, on instruments that are often not looked upon as carrying an important role.  Each individual part carries a distinct and challenging task in tying this piece together.  This is proven by the multiple occurrences of layering in addition to the many rhythmic motives that are passed back and forth among instruments.  Precision and the consistent eighth note will be the keys to this piece's success.
